Poverty reduction through profit; How will the poor benefit from the World Cup Soccer 2010?
For the Netherlands National Committee for International Cooperation and Sustainable Development (NCDO) EconoVision developed a methodology for calculating the economic benefits, and in particular the effects on poverty,  of hosting the World Cup Soccer 2010. This methodology was presented to the FIFA Board and South African Local Organising Committee (SALOC).

Economic importance of Heineken for the economy of Sierra Leone

Heineken has asked EconoVision to determine the value of its Sierra Leone Brewery for the national economy of Sierra Leone. This analysis focuses on various effects: entrepreneurship, balance of trade, employment, environment and cash and non-cash contributions to the public sector. The project has been successful in strengthening the ‘licence to operate’ for Heineken in Sierra Leone. Joël van der Beek implemented this research project in cooperation with other research bureaus.

Peace through economic development … or economic development through peace?

EconoVision was asked by the Institute for Peace and Economics (Australia) to research and define a method for calculating the economic value of selected indicators in the Global Peace Index (GPI) and, subsequently, rank these indicators by their likely monetary impact on a country. This would help gauge the economic value of increased peacefulness by country. By the same token, it would help establish the economic costs of declining peacefulness. This research contributes to the further development of the GPI.

Infrastructure and Development, does it work?

Authorities in developing countries submit proposals for the ORIO financial facility for infrastructure support (from the budget of the Minister of Development Cooperation). The Ministry of Economic Affairs awards, on the basis of a beauty contest with other proposals, a grant for the project if it meets with the criteria for technical feasibility, economic viability and the effects on the national and local economy as well as on poverty reduction and environment. EconoVision provides support by developing a comprehensive analytical argumentation for the proposal.
